Volcano Island Adventure VBS

Discover the God who made it all. God made every mountain, wave and creature, and the Maker of it all loves me and sent Jesus for me.

Theme verse

In his hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is his also. The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.Psalm 95:4–5 (KJV)

The five days

  1. Day 1 · Black Sand Beach

God made the land, the sea and me.

Bible story: God Made Everything (Genesis 1:1–2:3)

Apply it: Before there was any island, any ocean or any turtle, there was God. He spoke, and the dry land and the sea appeared. He filled the water with fish and the beaches with creatures, and on the sixth day He made people in His own image. The God who made the volcano and the ocean made you, on purpose and with love. Everything we explore this week belongs to Him, and so do we. That is why we can thank Him, trust Him and care for what He made.

  2. Day 2 · Waterfall Valley

    Jesus gives living water.

Bible story: The Woman at the Well (John 4:1–42)

Apply it: A woman came to the well at noon, when no one else was there. Jesus knew everything she had ever done, and He still offered her living water: forgiveness and a new life that satisfies forever. Toys, praise and good grades never fill our hearts for long, but Jesus can. The woman ran back to town and told everyone, “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did.” When Jesus fills us up, we can’t keep it to ourselves.

  3. Day 3 · Surf’s Up Point

I keep my eyes on Jesus.

Bible story: Jesus Walks on the Water (Matthew 14:22–33 · Mark 6:45–52 · John 6:15–21)

Apply it: In the middle of a stormy night, the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water. Peter said, “Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water,” and Jesus said, “Come.” Peter walked on the waves! But when he looked at the wind, he got scared and began to sink. He cried, “Lord, save me,” and right away Jesus caught him. Our fears and problems are like waves. When we keep our eyes on Jesus, He holds us up, and when we start to sink, He is close enough to catch us.

  4. Day 4 · Fire Mountain

Jesus died for my sins and rose again. He makes me white as snow.

Bible story: The Crucifixion and Resurrection Story (Matthew 26–28 · Mark 14–16 · Luke 22–24 · John 18–20)

Apply it: Sin is like a stain we can’t wash out by ourselves. Jesus never sinned, but He died on the cross to pay for our sins. When He died, the earth shook and the rocks split. His body was laid in a tomb, but on the third day there was a great earthquake, the stone was rolled away, and Jesus was alive! Because Jesus paid it all, God promises, “though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” Have you asked Jesus to make your heart clean?

  5. Day 5 · The Fruit Stand

God grows good fruit in me.

Bible story: The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:16–26)

Apply it: Fruit doesn’t grow by a branch trying hard; it grows when the branch stays connected to the tree. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance, and God’s Holy Spirit grows it in everyone who belongs to Jesus. When you are patient with your little brother or kind to someone who was left out, people get a taste of who Jesus is. What fruit is God growing in you?
